When it comes to golf equipment, shoes are the main aspect because they can make or break your golfing performance on the field. Although, if you’re an experienced golf player, you may already know that the field sometimes becomes muddy, which is something you may never want for your shoes.

I have explained step-by-step how to clean golf shoes to keep the look fresh and long-lasting.

How To Clean Golf Shoes: 4 Steps You Should Follow

Cleaning your golf shoes is slightly different than cleaning your regular footwear. They require special shoe care to prolong their lifespan and appearance. After discussing this matter with a shoe expert who’s a sneakerhead by profession, I have compiled this guide with the following steps:

1 – Wash Them

You may see various products and shoe cleaners recommended by people online. But, the first step is to clean golf shoes by washing them. Rinsing your golf shoes will remove all the dirt especially when your golf shoe has a mesh upper.  But, make sure you have removed the laces before using water.

I recommend using slightly warm water to clean golf shoes and ensure you have removed the inner sole before applying a stain remover.  Once you’re done with washing golf shoes, hang them out to dry or place them under the sun where you get a decent flow of air.

2 – Use A Suede Kit Or Leather Softener

In the suede kit, you will get a special type of shoe brush designed to remove marks or dirt that can’t be removed with a traditional sponge. Having a suede kit will even help you clean your other shoes as they don’t cost much and are very useful for shoe restoration.

After that, use a leather softener to give back your golf shoes moisture. It will prevent the cracks that you usually get after cleaning your shoes. You can get such type of softener for $5 on Amazon.

Note: Apply the leather softener only if you have leather golf shoes. Otherwise, only use a Suede kit to remove every mark of dirt.

As I said before, if you don’t have leather golf shoes, then applying shoe cream would be your next step. Apply this over the body of your shoes and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes. Once your shoe absorbs the cream, use a clean cloth or a shoe shiner.

The purpose of using the shoe cream is to prevent dullness of your shoes from the outside and give them a fresh look, even if you’re restoring them after 6 months. Follow the next step to know more!

4 – Always Have An Extra Set Of Shoe Laces

Golf shoes mostly look attractive in white color, and as we all know white color catches more dirt than other colors. Despite the design and manufacturing material, if you have white golf shoes, always have a spare pair of shoe laces.

Several shoe brands offer a spare pair of laces that come with certain types of shoes. Although try to clean your previous shoe laces, if it’s still not looking fresh, it’s time to replace it with a new one.
